In 1951 the National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters held its first constitutional convention at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Their mission: to transform public insurance adjusting from a loosely organized craft into a recognized profession governed by strict ethics and a genuine commitment to policyholders.

The National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (NAPIA) is committed to safeguarding the rights of policyholders by fostering elevated standards of professional conduct, expertise, and ethics within the public adjusting industry.

NAPIA enhances the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of public adjusters and other professions. As a result, policyholders receive fair representation and equitable resolution of their insurance claims.

Gene Lerner, grandfather of CEO Rich Cohen, was one of the people leading the formation of the organization.

Clarke & Cohen is an accredited charter member of NAPIA. The firm that has shaped the standards of the public adjusting profession for as long as the profession has had a national identity. Clarke & Cohen was established in 1921 in Philadelphia. When NAPIA was created, the firm had already been advocating for the insured for three decades.
