Business Interruption Claims
Loss of Business Income
When a covered cause of loss occurs which effects your business, you may have coverage for your loss of business income as a result of the damages. This coverage, which is included in most Business Owners Policies and available as specific endorsement in Commercial Package Policies, includes the income you would have collected had no loss occurred for the time it should take you to repair your property and get back into business.
Our strategic approach to this coverage includes our team of forensic accountants and adjusters who have extensive experience with business interruption claims. They are uniquely qualified to review your historical financial information and work with you to project what you would have expected to happen had this loss not occurred.
Even if you are only partially down as a result of the claim, you would be entitled to collect the difference between what you would have made and what you actually are able to make during this time period. In many cases, you may be able to recover for lost business income and extra expenses, even if you were not profitable prior to the occurrence of a business interruption claim.
Business Interruption Claims
Business Interruption/Loss of Income coverage often includes extra expense coverage. This allows you to recover the additional expenses you incur to minimize your loss and get your business up and running, even partially, in an attempt to reduce your loss of income. The insured may be able to reopen in a temporary location in an effort to recover some or all of the income we project you would have made. Additionally, this assists the insured in maintaining their business by potentially outsourcing during a time that they are not able to completely be in business.
These coverages also often include provisions for you to continue to pay your key employees and your regular payroll when a loss occurs in order for you to maintain your employees during the time your business is not operating.
The Business Interruption/Loss of Business Income portion of your coverage can be extremely complicated and requires experts with the experience to provide documented, supportable financial information to project the amount of income you would have expected during the repair process.
